Recently, I had the pleasure of spending a day at Craigtoun Park, which is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from St Andrews. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out on a fantastic outdoor experience. The park is open all year round and offers a bunch of fun activities. From the Rio Grande miniature railway to the Puffin’ Billy road train, there’s something for everyone. They even added a Go-Kart track recently, which is a blast for both kids and adults alike.
While the rides and games are a big draw, what really caught my eye during my visit was The Sunshine Kitchen, nestled right in the heart of the park. This isn’t just any cafe. It’s a special place where young adults with lifelong neurological conditions are given a chance to shine. They run the whole show, from growing their own produce to cooking and serving it. It’s inspiring to see them in action, and every bite you take supports their journey.
But it’s not just about the food. The Sunshine Kitchen is about creating opportunities and building confidence. They’re making a real difference in these young adults’ lives, but they need our help to keep going. The charity relies on donations to continue providing these vital experiences. So, while you’re enjoying the park’s attractions and munching on some delicious treats from the cafe, consider making a contribution to their cause.
And don’t forget, Craigtoun Park is more than just rides and snacks. There’s boating, putting, and crazy golf, not to mention the bouncy castles and pedal cars for the little ones. It’s the perfect place for a family day out, and every visit supports the park and initiatives like The Sunshine Kitchen.
So why not plan a trip? Enjoy the great outdoors, have fun with the array of activities on offer, and maybe stop by The Sunshine Kitchen for a bite. It’s a chance to do some good while having a good time. And if you can, please consider donating to their cause. Every little bit helps them provide more opportunities and continue their fantastic work. And if you’re not in the area, think about making a donation online. It’s a wonderful way to give back and support a project that’s making a real difference.
